Caddell Prep specializes in tutoring and test prep for the SAT, SHSAT and TACHS.

We have many ways to help parents and students prepare for tests and keep up in school including tutoring, prep classes, and online test prep.

SAT Prep

Students typically take the SAT, which is administered by the College Board, in spring of junior year and in fall of senior year. However, some students take it even earlier, such as in fall of junior year. When is the best time for you to take the test? Well, very simply, it’s when you have the most time to prepare for the SAT. SAT prep can take a month or more than a year. It really just depends on how much improvement you need to get the score you want.

SAT Prep Classes

SAT prep classes at Caddell Prep are always limited to eight students per class. This allows each student to ask questions and have the attention of the instructor. Small class sizes also allow the tutors to build rapport with the students quickly, which is very important for success. Classes are available in-person at our Staten Island office and online. We offer two types of SAT prep classes: In-Depth (24 hours of instruction) and Elite (72 hours of instruction).

SAT Tutoring

SAT tutoring allows students to get 1-on-1 attention from SAT tutors. This allows for immediate feedback. Tutors are able to answer any questions students may have and work through questions with students. If a student hits a wall with a question, a tutor can immediately help a student figure it out without giving away the answer. Our tutors will guide your child through the different strategies and think through the question, so your child is able to understand it and will know how to answer a similar question in the future. We normally start with a diagnostic test before beginning SAT tutoring, so we can develop a plan for your child.

On-Demand SAT Prep

On-Demand SAT prep allows students to prepare for the SAT at their own pace. Caddell Prep’s on-demand courses include interactive lessons in which a lesson is made up of many short videos with questions between videos, so students remain active during learning instead of watching one long video. Practice tests include advanced assessments to guide students toward subjects they need to spend the most time on to improve their scores the most.

SHSAT Prep

The SHSAT is the high school admissions test used for admission to New York City Specialized High Schools (except LaGuardia). The test is three hours long and covers English and math. Students typically start SHSAT Prep in the summer before 8th grade. Some students start years in advance; while, other students only spend a month preparing. To determine how much time you would need, we advise taking a practice test and seeing how you score on it. Then compare your score to the cut-off scores for the most recent SHSAT.

SHSAT Prep Class

Caddell Prep offers two options for SHSAT prep classes: 70 hours of instruction and 36 hours of instruction. Both options are available either online or in-person at our Staten Island office. Classes are limited to eight students per class to ensure students get attention from the instructor and help when they need it. Classes typically start in the beginning of July and end right before the SHSAT test date.

SHSAT Tutoring

SAT tutoring allows students to get the full attention from the tutor. This allows for immediate help when struggling. Tutors are able to answer any questions students may have and work through questions with students. If a student hits a wall with a question, a tutor can immediately help a student figure it out without giving away the answer. Our tutors will guide your child through the different strategies and think through the question, so your child is able to understand it and will know how to answer a similar question in the future. We normally start with a diagnostic test before beginning SAT tutoring, so we can develop a plan for your child. Since tutoring is 1-on-1, the lessons can be tailored for your child’s specific needs. For example, if your child has mastered fractions and struggles with geometry, we focus more time on geometry. The goal is to always work on the topics that will boost your child’s score the most.

TACHS Prep

Most Catholic High Schools in NYC require students to take the TACHS (Test for Admission to Catholic High Schools) as part of their application. Schools use TACHS scores similar to the way colleges use the SAT or ACT. The TACHS makes up a part of their criteria for acceptance, placement into programs (scholars, honors, etc.) and awarding of scholarships. TACHS Prep is important because a lot is on the line. Not only can the TACHS determine if you’ll get into a school, but if you’ll get scholarship money and placed into appropriate classes. Most students start preparing during the summer before 8th grade.

TACHS Prep Classes

TACHS prep classes at Caddell Prep are always limited to eight students per class, allowing each student to ask questions and have the attention of the instructor. Small class sizes also allow the tutors to build rapport with the students quickly, which is very important for success. Classes are available in-person at our Staten Island office and online. Our TACHS prep classes include ten 2-hour classes plus 3 practice tests, meeting 13 times in total.

TACHS Tutoring

TACHS tutoring provides students with the full attention of the tutor, allowing for immediate help when struggling. 1-on-1 tutoring allows for the tutoring sessions to be customized exactly for the child’s needs. If a student needs to focus more on the language part of the TACHS test than reading comprehension, the tutor is able to do so. Also, a tutor can focus on specific topics for each section as well. For instance, a student may have a low math score but specifically needs help with fractions. We normally start with a diagnostic TACHS before beginning, so we can develop a plan for your child. We don’t charge for the diagnostic test.
